In 2012, We, MARNA Inc. celebrate the 140th anniversary. The great passion for creativity has been succeeded for 140 years and it gets stronger than ever.

Let us introduce how we started our business as a brush manufacturer 140 years ago and how we have been innovating since then.

TORAMATSU NAGOYA
Toramatsu invented the Japan's first Western-style brush.
  • Japanese traditional brush

In 1872, Mr. Toramatsu Nagoya encountered a foreigner using a clothes brush which was just introduced into Japan. He was impressed with its beauty and funcionality and immediately decided to start manufacturing brushes.

This was the first production of a Western-style brush in Japan.
His original brushes became very popular and gradually used countrywide.

In 1900, Mr. Kiyomatsu Nagoya, 13 year-old-boy, came to Tokyo and was apprenticed at several brush makers.Having become a professional, he developed a brand-new brush named 'Advanced Paste Brush'.

In order to improve the quality of brushes, he constantly tried to translate his customer needs and expectations to his products by listening to their voices.

"Sell products at lower prices, while purchasing higher quality materials" His business philosophy has been maintained in practical over the years.

The 'Advanced Paste Brush' enjoyed great reputation and in 1926, he opened "Nagoya store" in Sumida-ku, Tokyo as we are known today.

KIYOSHI NAGOYA
Export to 26 countries in the world and expand to a Houseware Manufacturer.

In 1950, Mr Kiyoshi Nagoya took over the business and became the president of "Japan Export Brush Manufacturing Inc.". He not only began manufacturing brushes for both industrial and household uses, but also started exporting the products to 26 countries. At the same time, he continued conducting market reserch in the domestic market and made the biggest decision in his life.

"We expand our business to housewares."

After that, he changed the company name to "Marna Inc.". Later, his new business was called "Revolution in Houseware Business".

In 1998, Mr. Yoshiki Nagoya became the president of MARNA Inc., and he is the CEO of Marna at present.

His motto is "Customer Satisfaction is our 1st priority", and he has been challenging to offer not only high quality products but also the best service to our customers. Marna has been continuously creating new products with sophisticated design, smart fuctions and delightful colors in order to make our customers' life more enjoyable.
